Lacrosse Camps

Lorne - Just wanted to thank you for again hosting an amazing lax camp. From the moment I drop my son off, with all of the coaches smiling and laughing, to the end of camp meeting I always feel confident my son is receiving THE camp experience of the summer. The fact that you always post short video clips and a lot of photos gives the parents a sneak peek at what all of the boys are doing. The stories about campers and coaches never fail to amuse. My son's smile on the car ride home and his comments about how your camp never fails to remind him how fun it is to play lacrosse makes me extremely happy.

Hi Lorne, Again thanks for an excellent camp. This was my son's 2nd year at your camp and he talks about it all year. A bunch of his LAX Bros (ugh-I can't believe I just typed that) went with him and it's so fun to see them all sporting the LSL gear at practice! They are all playing on a Summer "Select" (not really too select but it's a great group of dudes) and they had one large tournament left after the camp. I noticed that a few of the players that had gone to camp had more confidence and my son was playing LSM like I've never seen him do. He seemed to be really more aware of the field and where to be and what to do . . . .his take downs were insane. Thanks for putting on this camp. I love the message. They keep talking about Tahoe. . . .

Lorne: Christian had a great time at the camp. He said that it was the best lacrosse camp that he has ever attended (and he has attended MANY!) Thank you for making it a memorable experience.

Just returned from vacation, but wanted to be sure you knew that our son, 7 Lions, had a terrific time at your camp. Lots of learning about room key cards and sunburn, but from our perspective, that is a good thing! He was thrilled with the very specific and continuous goalie training during every game, and he definitely thinks he's a much better player for it. Thank you so much for all you and your team's efforts.

Hi Lorne, Our son attended your camp. He loved it, learned a lot, and wants to return next year. Thank you so much for running such a good program. He's never received such intense, goalie specific training since he decided to goalie. We also really appreciated your closing comments and information about pursuing college lacrosse. Thank you so much for sharing your insider's information.

I have to admit, we do sooooooo many camps and showcases, but LSL is the ONLY camp my son likes to repeat. You will see us again next year. They are already planning it!

Lorne's camps are where I first learned how to actually play the game of lacrosse. Nine years ago in Oregon there were little to no opportunities where you would get this kind of quality lacrosse teaching while having the most fun week of your summer. I credit so much of my early success in High School to the experience and teaching I got personally from Lorne and from the coaching staff there. There are not many role models other than Lorne that I can accredit where I learned the game of lacrosse from. I really want to go back to summer camp, I could still learn a bunch from one of his shooting demos. Go to this camp!

Your great LSL camps reinforce the life lessons to be learned from this game of beauty and honor. I appreciate your way of teaching how much the team effort matters, and the balance you always stress, Lorne, between LAX, academics, family, and musical passion. You are such a great role model for my son, and for all the boys fortunate enough to attend your camps. Thank you.

My son played on a select team as well as attended your camp this summer. I feel that the camp was a more valuable learning experience for him. And he had a great time. I also appreciated your talk at the end of the camp about balance and working hard in academics and athletics. I know my son is looking forward to camp next summer.

I just finished your University of Oregon camp last Friday and I had a great time. It was honestly the most fun I've had at a lacrosse camp.

I am writing to express our appreciation for making the lacrosse camp at St. Mary's such a positive experience. Our son left camp each day excited about new drills introduced, skills he learned, and how much he enjoyed the coaching staff. Andrew was challenged to not only be a better lacrosse player, but to be a better teammate. Congratulations to you and your staff on creating such a wonderful camp experience.

My son had, and I quote, "the best camp ever!" He said the coaches were awesome and the fun and sportsmanship was never-ending. So thank you for making such a positive and fun event! And the shirts are awesome by the way, I wish I had one.

I just wanted to compliment you on your fantastic lacrosse camp. My son had nothing but compliments about his experiences the past week. Fun and the best camp he's been too! Your enthusiasm is contagious, and is evident in your staff as well. I also like that you stress the importance of the academic side of sports as these kids move onto high school and college sports.

"Ice chest" and "the ripper" had a super week! You were all so great with the kids, teaching them so much and boosting their self esteem as well. Loved your chat on balance. . . thanks. Will would love to do that high school camp but is already committed to something else. Next year for sure!!

I wanted to say thank you for last week. Our son told us last year it was the best camp he has been to. Of course he wanted to go again this year and came home every day with smiles, tired, but with smiles! Thanks again, you run a great camp!

Thank you so much for having Jackson in camp a couple weeks ago! He loved it. Said everyone lived up to the code of honor you laid out and he learned a lot about some of the finer points of the game. Great job and thank you again!

Thanks for the U of O camp. My son had the time of his life. This was his first lacrosse camp and he can hardly wait for it to come around again. The Bend Oregon kids are really talking the camp up on our side of the mountain. Thanks again.

I have been meaning to write you and tell you what a stellar camp you have going and how we were so pleased with the way it all turned out. Our son Blake (Blue) had a blast at your camp @ Sierra college and he literally couldn't stop talking about all the great lacrosse — a come-from-behind victory, a new set of skills and not to mention the new friends be made there. He told me he couldn't wait for the High School Lacrosse season so he could share what he learned at your camp with his teammates.

One of the most outstanding things Blake took away from the camp was what you already mentioned; sharing the ball. He was so stoked regarding the way each player "wanted to feed the other guys" so they had opportunities to shine. He was impressed how all the kids really worked together, had fun and genuinely wanted to assist and feed so someone had a chance to score.

High fives all around for you and your staff!!!!! Seriously, we couldn't have asked for much more.

Thank you for an awesome camp! My son, Mitchell Senour aka Scooby, said that your camp was the best lacrosse camp he has attended. Not only did he learn new skills that will help improve his game, he had fun. Overall a great experience. He's looking forward to attending again next year.

Lorne thank you for making a huge impression on my son I met him today and he raved for hours on the camp the players and coaches, thanks again for a great organized camp for my son Alex.

Just wanted to say I really appreciated the things you said to the kids at the end of the camp — a very good message all the way around. Will is doing a ton of lacrosse this summer and gets a little burned out on it — but your camp is something he absolutely loves — it somehow brings back what he loves about lacrosse.

Tremendous! That's how I would describe the week. I was really impressed with the camp and the boys were very excited as well when we drove home Friday afternoon.

Thank you Lorne for offering our boys one fantastic camp! Every Woodinville player I talked to had a great time, even though they were exhausted! The parents also agreed that you had all the details fine-tuned and were very well organized.

Lorne Smith is one of the best clinicians I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Whether it's my kids coming back from his camps, having him come facilitate a team practice, or even having the opportunity to have him run a simple drill, the postive impact on my players over the last 8 years has been direct and immediate. I can pinpoint the change in our 2011 State Championship season to a drill Lorne set-up for us and ran on our Spring trip to San Francisco. Best 40 minutes we've ever invested. Thanks Lorne!

Having come from California, I was at a disadvantage because I didn't grow up playing lacrosse, unlike the kids from the East Coast who were born with sticks in their hands. Lorne's camps helped me become a smarter attackmen in so many different ways: transition, settled offensive situations, dodging, stick protection, and most importantly for me, shooting. Coaches will often compliment me on my knowledge of the game, and I owe a lot of this to Lorne's teaching. In addition, I took shooting lessons from Lorne which eventually helped me stand out at recruiting camps. All this aside, if there was one thing I remember about Lorne's camps, it was that they were fun and I always felt like a better player after his camps ended.

"Lorne —

I just wanted to thank you personally for all the great camps that my son Ramond has attended with you over the years — and will continue to attend for the next few years for sure! Ray has been to lacrosse camps hosted by many different groups over the past 5 years, but he has always considered the quality level of your coaches to be the absolute best."

Hi Lorne,

I just wanted to let you know how much the boys are enjoying this camp. My son, Austin K., is there with a couple friends, Matt and Austin S, and they all think this is one of if not the best camp they have ever taken. Austin told me last night that he will be ready to do the overnight camp next year! Austin introduced lacrosse to Matt this spring and he now thinks that he will be playing for the Crusaders next year. That is positive feedback I wanted to make sure you are aware of. Thanks for all of the effort you and your team put into the camp.

Diane

Dear Lorne,

Thanks again for another great camp. Michael and the other boys all had a really good time and ever since then, Michael hasn't gone a day without practicing lacrosse. . . . so something at camp really inspired him. As a parent, I really appreciate your professionalism and the way that the other coaches remembered Michael from past years.

Dear Lorne —

I just picked my kid up from Eugene, OR camp held at the U of O. He had a terrific time! He thought that you and all the other coaches, the Portland Lumberjack players (especially Danny), and Joe (U of O coach) from Bigfoot, were incredible. He will never forget his introduction to Lacrosse through this camp. I believe this will launch a new player to a dedicated young man. Our family can't thank you enough for your part in his experience. Keep up the good work and we'll see you next year!

Cindy A. Reynolds

Hey Lorne,

Yeah, well, the cell phone just rang, and boy, YOU and your crew are at the top of the ratings charts!! Cody had a blast, feels as though he learned "TONS and is DEFINITELY coming back next year."

Lacrosse Coaches Clinics

Last night I attended a great coaching session put on by Warrior Lacrosse and led by Lorne Smith, Head Coach Stanford Men's Lacrosse, Princeton '99, 3x All-American, 3x NCAA National Champion, MLL LA Riptide, National Director Warrior PCX Camps. What a great event! Forty-three coaches, from many different East Bay clubs, were presented with a coherent, organized talk by Lorne.

The session started with small group situations (e.g., 2v2), alternating between offensive objectives and defensive responses. Lorne worked all the way up to 6v6, then turned to uneven situations, from 2v1 all the way up to 6 v 2-5. Throughout the evening, there was an ongoing emphasis on the who, what, where, when, and why of off ball movement, both on offense and defense. I certainly learned a lot, but more interesting to me was that many of the top coaches from the top youth programs in NorCal were in attendance and taking copious notes.

Lorne and Warrior Lacrosse are presenting two more of these sessions. I'd encourage any youth coach to find the time to attend one of these remaining sessions.
